It turns out that unneeded, expensive mammograms are being pushed on elderly women who are incapacitated from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, especially if the women have savings or assets of $100,000 or more.

McCain’s bill is called The Dietary Supplement Safety Act (DSSA). It would repeal key sections of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). New supplements may be arbitrarily banned by the FDA or adopted by drug companies in a way that precludes their further sale as supplements. It would give the FDA full discretion and power to compile a discreet list of supplements allowed to remain on the market while banning all others.

Yes, the drugs are effective, in that they lift depression in most patients. But that benefit is hardly more than what patients get when they, unknowingly and as part of a study, take a dummy pill—a placebo. As more and more scientists who study depression and the drugs that treat it are concluding, that suggests that antidepressants are basically expensive Tic Tacs. Hence the moral dilemma. The placebo effect—that is, a medical benefit you get from an inert pill or other sham treatment—rests on the holy trinity of belief, expectation, and hope.

Do you remember being a teenager and arguing a point with your parents, only to have the debate shut down when they exclaimed, ‘As long as you live in my house, you will follow my rules’? Remember how great it felt to grow up and move into your own place, no matter how small and lowly, simply for the sense of freedom and self determination? Why are we so willing to become dependent once again?

Based on the amount of surprise coming out of Washington, D.C., it is clear that a lot of politicians do not understand why Americans are upset – and not just with liberal/progressive Democrats. They are upset with those elected to serve the people but who vote for legislation we the people oppose.  The politicians also don’t understand Tea Parties, what the true meaning of them is, or why people attend them. It’s almost like those we elected to serve our needs are just waking up. They now know that we know whose interests they serve – and it isn’t ours. Do citizens actually expect them to legislate on the basis of the Constitution? Unheard of poppycock!

What caused the 30 point lead of Martha Coakley to vaporize and the truck driving, virtually unknown Senator to score such an upset? Endless analysts are saying that this was really a vote against the national health care machine and Obama’s policies. As people have read chunks of this health care bill and it’s relatives, formerly devout democrats and of course Republicans have coiled at Obama and this congress’s idea of change.
