Determining the Weak Links - the Chinese Perspective (part 1)
Moist climates weaken the spleen. If you live in the northwest, eat sweets, or have taken antibiotics, you may develop chronic immune deficiency disorders. Sweets cause mucous and weaken the spleen. Antibiotics weaken the digestive organs including the spleen.
Living in a hot climate or ingesting too much hot food will weaken the heart. Excessive fear and living in a cold climate, or drinking excessive amounts of ice water will weaken the kidney.
The Chinese put the causes of illness in groups of five. There are five perverse climates and five excessive behaviors.
Climates:
- Wind weakens liver.
- Heat weakens the heart.
- Moisture weakens the spleen.
- Dryness weakens the lung.
- Coldness weakens the kidney.
Behaviors:
- Irritability or anger weakens the liver.
- Excessive laughter weakens the heart.
- Excessive worry or tension weakens the spleen.
- Excessive grief or negativity weakens the lung.
- Excessive fear weakens the kidney.
The Chinese approach to healing, the western label for the disease is unimportant in determining the course of treatment, the eastern physician evaluates the patient for dis-function by observing the color of the face, eyes and tongue, the odor of the breath, the mannerisms of the patient and by measuring a balance within the energy circuits of the body by observation, pulse diagnosis, electronic read-out or reflex challenges. The eastern practitioner determines which organs’ systems are disfunctional, the appropriate dose and the length of treatment that is needed and dietary and emotional changes which are needed to achieve wellness.
