Water Essential

The most enduring image of humanity’s exploration
of space has turned out to be the sight of a small blue
pearl of a planet orbiting a rather ordinary star in an
out-of-the-way corner of the galaxy. From space, the
blue color of our planet distinguishes it from anything
else as far as our telescopes can see. The
Hubble telescope can take pictures literally trillions
of miles in any direction and our little blue pearl is
the only one in sight.

What is it that makes our planet so unique, special,
and extraordinary? Water. Water not only colors
our world but also provides it with the capacity to
harbor life. Water is Nature’s catalyst; the key to life.
There are places on Earth that are so dry, parched,
and inhospitable looking that you would think no
life could possibly be sustained there. Then along
comes a life-giving rain and a dazzling spectacle of
transformation occurs. In only a few short days there
is a lush carpet of plants and flowers in a circus of
colors as far as the eye can see where only a few days
earlier there was nothing but parched and cracked
earth. Animals by the thousands seem to appear out
of nowhere to feast on the bounty.

Recognizing the uniqueness of our planet and the
primary role water plays in our life, and in our
health, can only rightly cause us to view water in a
new, more reverential way. When we honor the
miraculous experience of our life, we must acknowledge
the incalculable importance of water and strive
to grasp the full measure of the fundamental role it
plays in our health and our fitness.

In the same way that water is the key to life and the
health of our planet, it is also a primary key to our
personal health and well-being. In seeking vibrant
health for ourselves and our loved ones, we would be
well advised to educate ourselves about water. And
aided by a new advanced technology and water science,
it has been discovered that water is not “just
water” anymore. A new class and generation of
advanced hydration and nutritional waters have been
designed to take us beyond simply surviving, to actually
thriving as fit, healthy, high performance individuals.
These discoveries will have a profound effect on
our national and global health in the years to come.

In looking at our blue planet it quickly becomes
apparent that most of the surface of the planet is
water, in fact about 70% of it is water. Why it is
called planet Earth, when clearly it should be called
planet Water? A most interesting fact to ponder is
that our bodies are also approximately 70% water.
We are, in the most literal sense possible, water
beings living on a water planet. Our body fluids are
an internal ocean that regulates and drives all body
functions in the same way that water and water cycles
govern organic life on Earth.

As we all make our way through this journey called
life, there is no gift that is more desired or more
cherished than the gift of good health. Some might
say that monetary wealth is most desired but what
good is a lot of money if you’re too sick to enjoy it?
Health is the greatest of gifts and it is impossible to
discuss the subject without also discussing the role of
water in acquiring and maintaining our health. No
more than one could discuss the nature of a majestic
200-foot redwood tree without also discussing the
soil in which it grows.

In striving for the highest level of health that can be
attained, it is instructive to know that the two most
extensive systems in the living body work hand-inhand
with one another in a never-ending, never-tiring
effort to keep the body as healthy as is possible.
The first is the cardiovascular system, which has at its
center the heart, pumping six quarts of blood
through an amazing 90,000 miles of blood vessels
bringing oxygen to every cell of the body. The
extreme importance of keeping the entire cardiovascular
system in top working condition is evidenced
by the fact that cardiovascular disease takes more lives
than all other causes of death by disease combined.

The second is the lymphatic system, commonly
referred to as the lymph system, which is a truly
remarkable network of millions of nodes, nodules,
glands, and vessels that contain three times more
lymph fluid than blood. As a normal, natural course
of events the living body is constantly generating
wastes, referred to as toxins, both from the billions
of spent cells that die off every day and from the
residue of the some 70 tons of food we will each eat
in our lifetime. If these toxins were allowed to be
produced in our body unchecked, we would quickly
be ushered to the grave. It is the job of the lymph
system to see to it that that never happens by gathering
up these toxins from every cell everywhere in the
body, breaking them down, and removing them. We
are constantly admonished to do whatever we can to
strengthen the body’s immune system as our very
survival depends upon us doing so. The lymph system
is the heart and soul of the immune system.

It is the activities of the cardiovascular system and the
lymph system that determines how long we will live
and how healthy we will be. No matter what one’s
health goals are, to lose weight, increase energy,
remove pain, overcome or prevent disease—whatever—
you can be absolutely certain beyond even the
most infinitesimal uncertainty that nothing will be
achieved without the constant and tireless effort of
the cardiovascular and lymph systems. Of that there
is no doubt.

“What”, you may be asking, “do the cardiovascular
system and lymph system have to do with the discussion
of water?” Just this: the blood that fuels the
cardiovascular system and the lymph fluid that fuels
the lymph system are 90% water! And it doesn’t stop
there. The activities of the cardiovascular and lymph
systems, and the trillions of other activities performed
by the living body every moment, are all
overseen by and conducted by what is considered to
be the most complex and astonishing creation in all
of nature: the human brain. The brain is 85%
water, as is the cerebrospinal fluid that cushions the
brain. So is the amniotic fluid that envelopes and
protects a fetus. Saliva is almost all water and without
it our tongue would stick to the inside of our
mouth; we wouldn’t be able to swallow. The fluid
that moistens the eye so it can move with ease, as well
as tears, both mostly water. If not for water, food
would not be digested, as digestive juices are practically
all water.

The entire process of bringing nutrients to the cells
and removing wastes from the cells is dependent
upon water as the transport medium. The fluid that
surrounds all the internal organs of the body is made
up of water and without it the organs would stick
together and tear. All the joints of the body move
with such ease because of water and without it the
joints would become stiff and immovable. Even our
bones are 35% water. We are water beings!

Remove all water from the human body and what is
left would fit into a shoebox. When you consider
that water is the second most urgent and necessary
requirement in order to stay alive, second only to
air, it’s rather shocking how few people fully recognize
the truly devastating repercussions to the body
when insufficiently hydrated, and conversely, the
immeasurable good that is the result of properly
meeting all of the body’s water needs.

It’s surprising how few people realize how much
water is actually lost from the body every day. As
water beings on a water planet the human body is
constructed so that there is an unceasing, roundthe-
clock ebb and flow of water into and out of the
body. Every day each one of us loses about two quarts
of water. Depending upon certain variables such as
physical activity and diet, it can easily be twice that
amount. Water is lost through both perspiration and
respiration.

Our skin contains millions of pores, all of which are
always secreting a certain amount of moisture.
Obviously when exercise or physical activity is
heightened we perspire more heavily and can clearly
see the loss of water, but there is not a moment, day
or night, that our skin is not excreting some water.
We also lose water every time we exhale. Breathe on
a mirror or window and you can actually see the
moisture from your lungs on the glass. Since you
exhale many thousands of times a day, each and every
time you do you lose some water.

This water must be replaced every day and failing to
do so will cause you more harm than you could possibly
imagine. Depriving the body of its water needs,
intentionally or unintentionally, can have catastrophic
results that negatively affect every activity
and function of the living body. No matter what
your health goals are, all are sabotaged by short
changing the body of its water needs.
