Dave Brownlow
My name is Dave Brownlow, and I am running for the United States Senate because the professional politicians we hired to do the job have failed us.Decades of compromise has left us with “two” political parties that have become so similar, it is nearly impossible to distinguish one from the other. With virtually no opposing power left in Washington, we are continually victimized by a lawless, one-party system that is driving us into moral and fiscal bankruptcy.
Our Constitution authorizes the federal government to perform a very specific - and very limited - set of functions; provide for the common defense of the states, secure our borders, coin money, regulate inter-state and international commerce, protect our inalienable rights - and very little else!
While the nation's primary law-making powers were delegated to the state legislatures, our real government exists within the people, working in our communities, families and churches. We have turned that design completely upside down, and have given near total power to the federal government. The experiment has failed, and …
It is time to take that power back!
If elected, my commitment is to follow the Constitution and only vote to approve legislation that falls under those clearly defined mandates. This means a foreign policy of peace, commerce, and non-intervention with our world neighbors, and a policy of individual liberty here at home. I do not feel it is too far a stretch to call our Bill of Rights (the first ten Amendments) the living embodiment of the command to "love your neighbor as yourself."
We have given the career politicians many decades to figure this out, and they have failed us - HUGE. We gave the Democrats control of Congress in 2006 because they promised to end the war in Iraq. Well, here we are two years later and the Democrats just voted - once again - to fully fund that nation-wrecking calamity well into next year. Are we ever going to learn?
Those we entrusted to lead us have brought us to the brink of disaster. Our economy is in a tailspin, the value of our dollar is heading toward freefall, our debt is exploding, our manufacturing base is being shipped offshore, our borders have become a virtual sieve, and our military is bogged down in two simultaneous, unconstitutional wars - while trying to defend a trillion dollar a year empire (also unconstitutional) that spans across 130 countries. Something has to change.
Most politicians (my opponents included) claim to know exactly how 300 million Americans should educate, medicate, feed and house themselves. They also want us to believe they posses the skills to somehow "manage" our $14 trillion dollar economy, or that their latest harebrained scheme is going to fix the federal programs that have been miserable failures for decades. In other words, they are either living in a fantasy world, or they are just not dealing with us honestly.
You can be confident that none of those false promises will be heard coming from me. Common sense, as well as the law, says those matters are best dealt with by the states and the people - and we Oregonians are a kind and generous folk. We can take care of our own.
I appreciate you taking the time to visit my site. I have tried to outline a set of positions that reflects a commitment to honor my oath of office – which is to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, (particularly the domestic ones!) while protecting the life and liberty of all Americans.
You may not agree with this pro-life, anti-war conservative on every issue, but you will definitely know where I stand – and as you will quickly realize while perusing this site, no one will accuse me of trying to win votes with a lot of happy talk.
Our country is in serious trouble. It is time we start telling each other the truth.
