R. Jeffrey Smith

R. Jeffrey Smith is a reporter at the Washington Post and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 2006.

Smith has an B.A. in Political Science and Public Policy Studies from Duke University and a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University. He was journalist-in-residence at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University in 2002. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Smith was a senior writer from 1977 to 1986 for Science magazine and he won two Science in Society Journalism Awards during that period. Afterwards, his career has developed at the Washington Post. From 1986 to 1998, he was a national security correspondent and, after that, he has been the Post's southern Europe bureau chief.
