About Digestion
The mouth, pharynx, esophagus,
stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus make up the
digestive tract. The digestive tract is about 30 feet of pipes for the
purpose of processing food and eliminating waste. The liver, three
salivary glands, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach lining, and the lining
of the small intestine produce over 100 enzymes that have vital roles
in processing and breaking down food for the digestive system.
When
we chew food, we are breaking down and mixing saliva with food. When we
swallow, the food is stored in the stomach where it is mixed with
enzymes and broken down into smaller molecules. Protein is broken down
into its original amino acids; fats are broken down into fatty acids;
and sugar is broken down into glucose. When the food is broken down
into a form the body can use, it is absorbed by the small intestine and
enters the blood stream. The blood circulates the food throughout the
body where it can be used by the body's healthy cells. The used dead
cells are carried to the large intestine where waste, bacteria, and the
dead cells can be eliminated.
Poor digestion can be caused by any part of the digestion system malfunctioning. If we become malnourished in vitamins or minerals then the digestive organs and enzymes can become weak. If we become overly toxic, the toxins can play a damaging role on our digestive organs and lining of our digestional walls. Parasites and bad bacteria may lead us to poor digestion. Poor diet can weaken and degenerate our digestive system. Many healthy foods contain enzymes and nutrition that may help strengthen the digestion system. Poor foods contain little if any nutrition but do require nutrition to be broken down properly. A poor diet can deplete nutrition and promote poor health.
Already taking enzymes?
If you take enzymes on a regular basis, you may be missing out on benefical nutrition that enzyme replacements don't provide. If you are taking enzymes' then you most probably have a weak digestive system. By strengthening the digestive system by eliminating toxins, replacing the depleted nutrition and beneficial bacteria, the body starts producing its own natural enzymes.
