Unity in a Disunified Country

We have a President of the United States who may not be eligible for the job but refuses to provide the simple records that would prove it, one way or the other. He bows to world leaders, trying to pacify foreigners with apologies for America’s greatness. Refusing to verbally support America’s greatness abroad is strange presidential behavior. We have a United States Attorney General who thinks it is okay to prosecute voter intimidation cases when the intimidator is white, but not when the intimidator is black.

Tea Parties: Hi-Jacked by Political Hacks?

In the beginning, professional politicians laughed when people began to gather at “Tea Party” rallies and meetings. Then New Jersey and Virginia election results shook them. Their laughter became muted. Then Massachusetts happened – and they stopped laughing altogether and both political parties began plotting how to take the movement over. In some cases, they are succeeding and Tea Party leaders and members are remiss for letting them get away with it.

Glenn Beck, Birthers and the Tea Parties

Based on the amount of surprise coming out of Washington, D.C., it is clear that a lot of politicians do not understand why Americans are upset – and not just with liberal/progressive Democrats. They are upset with those elected to serve the people but who vote for legislation we the people oppose.  The politicians also don’t understand Tea Parties, what the true meaning of them is, or why people attend them. It’s almost like those we elected to serve our needs are just waking up. They now know that we know whose interests they serve – and it isn’t ours. Do citizens actually expect them to legislate on the basis of the Constitution? Unheard of poppycock!

The Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR) in Colorado

TABOR lets citizens vote on tax increases. In Colorado - because of TABOR - voters determine the level of government service on which they want to spend tax dollars. Since tax revenues are more limited, government must spend within its means. Prior to TABOR, Colorado could increase mill levies and state taxes at their discretion. Thanks to Bruce, TABOR is "tightly written," which prevents government from counteracting its intent.

If We Don't Learn From History...

Once all 50 states allowed branch banking, the Comptroller decided it was okay for banks to use bank holding companies to establish banks in other states… a direct violation of the McFadden Act. Suddenly, we saw First Interstate Banks all over the western United States. We saw NationsBank of North Carolina owning banks in Florida and Citibank moved into California and Arizona. Until this time, the McFadden Act prevented interstate branch banking – intrastate branch banking laws were controlled by each state. To my knowledge, the McFadden Act has never been over-turned… just ignored by the Congress...
